December MCLE: What are the ethics of using AI for your brief? Join us for our annual ethics program which will examine a selection of recent cases as well as ethics opinions issued by the State Bar of California Committee on Professional Responsibility and discuss important takeaways for your legal practice.
The Women Lawyers Association of San Luis Obispo is a California State Bar approved MCLE provider. This program qualifies for one (1.0) hour of Legal Ethics MCLE credit.

OUR SPEAKERS:
The Honorable Crystal Seiler (Moderator)
Judge Crystal Tindell Seiler grew up in San Luis Obispo County and graduated from Templeton High School. She then went on to Stanford University where she earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Political Science in 2005, and a Juris Doctor in 2008. She served as a Deputy District Attorney here in San Luis Obispo County from 2009 until 2011, and then transferred to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. While there, she held numerous assignments and distinguished herself as an exceptional prosecutor. Governor Newsom appointed Judge Seiler to the bench in 2023.
Raymond Allen
Attorney Raymond Allen has more than two decades of experience in criminal defense and is known for his thoughtful and creative case strategy, extensive courtroom litigation skill and experience, and dedication to the community. He has successfully represented clients in complex criminal cases, earning multiple jury trial acquittals and other favorable outcomes in court.
He will be joining the attorney team at Stein-Conaway Law Firm, P.C. as Senior Counsel on December 1, 2025. Before joining SCLF, P.C., Mr. Allen practiced at the Law Office of Raymond Allen and at Alton & Allen, Inc. In addition to his courtroom work, he has been a professor at the San Luis Obispo College of Law since 2016, where he continues to devote his energy to mentoring the next generation of attorneys in our community. Mr. Allen has also served on the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association’s Board of Directors, where he was Editor of the SLO County Bar Bulletin, and has authored numerous articles for the Bulletin on topics including bail reform, capital punishment, gun law, cyberbullying, and marijuana law
Sarah Merson
Sarah Merson is a prosecutor in the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office. Born and raised on the Central Coast, Sarah found her passion for the law while competing in high school mock trial. She earned her J.D. from Notre Dame Law School and began her career with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted a wide range of felony cases, including attempted murder, vehicular homicides, and violent prison crimes. Sarah returned home and joined the San Luis Obispo County D.A.’s Office, where she has served for the past year. Currently, Sarah works in the Sexual Assault Crimes Unit and Arson Unit.
Aislinn Roberts
Aislinn Kiyomi Roberts is an Associate Attorney in Lozano Smith’s San Luis Obispo office and co-chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group. Her legal practice is focused on the labor and employment, investigations, and governance aspects of public agency law.
Ms. Roberts assists clients on various labor and employment issues, including discipline, layoffs, discrimination complaints, disability accommodations, leaves, and workplace violence. Her labor and employment practice also includes grievance processing, grievance mediation and arbitration, contract interpretation, and appeals. She also advises clients on student-related issues such as records, discipline, searches, and constitutional issues.
Ms. Roberts advises public agencies through the investigation process and serves as a third-party investigator for issues involving sexual harassment, Uniform Complaint Procedures, Title IX, retaliation, discrimination, and other complaints that may arise in the education setting.
Ms. Roberts earned her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and her B.A. in Political Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Lunches will be provided for in-person participants. Vegetarian options will be available.
All proceeds will go toward the WLA scholarship fund and the other worthy events hosted by the WLA.
